4-year-old girl left terrified after plane airbag stored in her seat belt explodes in her face, leaving her with devastating injuries (photos)

Daisy James, of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, was travelling back from Washington DC to London Heathrow with her grandmother. To her horror, an airbag secured within the belt she was wearing mistakenly deployed and exploded.

She suffered burns, cuts and bruises to her face , arm , chest and thigh, which caused painful scars. For months afterwards she suffered nightmares about the accident, and her mother Gillian, 38, launched legal action against Virgin Airlines.

Four years later, Daisy has been awarded an undisclosed five-figure settlement from Virgin Airlines, which has admitted liability for the accident.

Mrs James said: 'Psychologically, she's really struggling. When she talks about life, this incident is the first thing she talks about. Before, Daisy didn't know what an accident was. Since, she says, "Well if it happened then, it could happen again. Not a day goes by that she doesn't mention it.'
