International Women's Day: 'Celebration Without The Celebrant' By Lara Wise...A Must read

Lara Owoeye Wise who is the Deputy Chief news Producer with Africa Independent Television (AIT), and an anchor of AIT’s prime time news hour has shared this painful truth , yet encouraging post on her facebook page to celebrate the International women's day.

Read below:

For about 105 years now, March 8 had come and gone.
Normal day!
All that has been done is pay lip service, Roll out the drums and 'celebrate' Every March 8; INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S Day....

Yet from March 9 of that yearto March 7 the following year
She remains the endangered specie from a cruel society that seeks to cage her from harmful traditional practices that debase and hurt her deeply from religions and dogmas that wrap a veil around her destiny from sexual exploitation from the house, the streets, the work place, in ' hallowed' places, everywhere! Sometimes from very abusive marriages.

Yet, the society blames her for wanting to survive.
from cruel in-laws who maltreat and treat her like second fiddle. From a government that does not protect her rights
but ensures she dies at childbirth

Yet even in death she doesnt rest in peace: she is labelled 'the witch'.

ANY WOMAN OUT THERE WHO FEELS WHAT I FEEL?
IS THERE ANY AT ALL?

But she survives pushing against the debilitating tides
Sailing the murky and stormy waters of life, sometimes all alone...  raising the future generation  from hands that refuse to be weakened keeping her eyes, her heart, her strength
her all on the goal...

So while they mockingly 'celebrate' us and spend millions doing so, without us, the celebrants, Let me borrow our sister, MAYA ANGELOUS's words and lets celebrate ourselves our own way...

...It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally...

...It's the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally...

...It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally...

...t's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me...
