Olympic gold medallist thanks fan for potentially saving his life after spotting worrying Mole in Rio
An Olympic gold medallist has thanked a swimming fan for potentially saving his life - after noticing a mole on his chest during the Rio Games.
Australian pool star Mack Horton, 20, won the 400m freestyle this summer and his picture was beamed around the world.
But as fans across Australia sent their congratulations, one contacted the team to suggest that Horton see a specialist about the potentially cancerous mole.
The swimmer has now had surgery in Melbourne to remove the mole and posted a picture on Instagram of him giving the thumbs up sign and showing a bandage on his chest as seen above.
As well as the photo Horton posted: "Shout out to the person that emailed the swim team doctor and told me to get my mole checked out. Good call. Very good call."
