Scotland Passes Bill Making It Easier for People as Young as 16 to Change Gender

The Gender Recognition Bill has become law in Scotland after an overwhelming majority of 86 to 39 at Holyrood. It makes it easier for individuals to legally change their gender through self-identification. The bill has been controversial, with opponents saying it could harm the rights of women and girls, while the Scottish government has insisted little will change.

The new process will take effect next year, pending a decision by the Scottish government after it monitors the impact of the agreements.
