The Notorious French serial killer "The Serpent" is freed from a prison in Nepal


Charles "The Serpent," a French serial killer who killed American and Canadian travellers, was released from prison in Nepal after serving the majority of his term.

Considering Sobhraj had already spent the most of his life sentence and was in poor health, the supreme court of Nepal ordered that he be released. Sobhraj had been given a life sentence.

According to the court document, he has heart disease and has already served more than 75% of his sentence, making him eligible for release.


The Frenchman has already admitted to killing a number of Western tourists, and it is estimated that throughout the 1970s, he killed at least 20 individuals in Afghanistan, India, Thailand, Turkey, Nepal, Iran, and Hong Kong.

His nickname, The Serpent, stems from his reputation as a master of disguise and as an escape artist.
